When trying to open a DWG file, Design Review fails with no error. The Open command then becomes available again, but trying the procedure still does not work.Causes:
Communications problem between Design Review and DWG TrueView.Solution:
Try the following solutions in order:About file types supported by Autodesk Design Review. File.org aims to be the go-to resource for file type- and related software information. We spend countless hours researching various file formats and software that can open, convert, create or otherwise work with those files. Causes: Design Review by itself cannot open DWG files. It uses DWG TrueView behind the scenes to convert the DWG file into DWF format. Additionally, Design Review needs a matching version of DWG TrueView. For example, Design Review 2013 will not work with DWG TrueView 2014.
- Run Design Review as an administrator. If DWG files open and convert properly, escalate permissions for all users.
- Instead of opening DWG files, export DWF files from AutoCAD or DWG TrueView and open them. See: To Export a Drawing to a DWF File.
Download the free Autodesk Design Review DWF viewer, the all-digital way to view, mark up, measure, print and track changes to 2D and 3D design files.
Note: Ensure that both Design Review and DWG TrueView installed in the PC are versions which match (e.g. Design Review 2018 and DWG TrueView 2018). If the above solutions do not resolve the issue attempt the steps in Otimizing the AutoCAD dwg file.

When trying to open a DWG file in Design Review 2013, it shows the message:Opening DWG files in Design Review requires the latest version of the free DWG TrueView program be installed.
However, after installing DWG TrueView 2014 or newer, the message continues to appear and DWG files will not open.
Causes:
Design Review needs the same version of DWG TrueView. Design Review 2013 is meant to work only with DWG TrueView 2013.Solution:
If you are not able to install DWG TrueView 2013, the following is an unsupported workaround to add registry keys for DWG TrueView 2013 but with values and paths that point to DWG TrueView 2015:- Exit both Design Review and TrueView.
- Create a new text file using Notepad and copy the following into it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareAutodeskDWG TrueViewR10]
'CurVer'='dwgviewr-E001:409'
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAutodeskDWG TrueViewR10dwgviewr-E001:409]
'Location'='C:Program FilesAutodeskDWG TrueView 2015 - English' - Save to a location of your choice and close the file.
- Rename the file so that it has a .reg extension instead of .txt. Be sure it does not end with .reg.txt after renaming (right-click > properties to see the full file name).
- Double-click the .reg file to apply it to the registry. Afterwards, the .reg file can be deleted.
